MEMINI

by Alam Bains

“MEMINI”, founded by Norwegian music producer and activist Deeyah, is an online site for remembering the victims of honour killings. The UN conservatively estimates that 5,000 women and girls are killed each year globally by members of their own family in the name of "honour".

Deeyah feels that the perpetrators of these honour motivated crimes want all signs of the lives of these young women to be completely wiped out. Memini wishes to ensure that the stories of victims of honor killings are told, thus defying the intent of those who wanted to erase them. This documentation of stories has a deeper purpose – to bring to light the many women and girls who are victims of this brutality in order to tell the world – it is happening and it has to stop.

MEMINI is an ongoing project and continues to add content as it is gathered. It is an entirely volunteer driven initiative where wonderful individuals are helping by donating their time to help support this online place of remembrance.

MAM MOVIES

by Kanika Kakkar
MAM: ‘I AM’ is what it means in Sanskrit. It’s an open source network of voluntary independent filmmakers who use media, the arts and technology to inform, inspire and empower others to create positive action in the world.

They believe inner transformation leads to outer change and to express it through stories they have been doing with several experiments like either moved by love, seva journals, lok darhsan, etc. Currently the team and volunteers of MAM Movies organize film screenings in public spaces and create awareness on various social causes.
