endPoverty.org

with inputs: Govind T

endPoverty.org helps enable the very poor of the world to lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty. It provides small loans, business training and community development programs through a network of locally-led organizations in twelve countries to equip poor families to improve their lives.

After more than two decades of work across the developing world, endPoverty.org understands that poor people in every country have skills and initiative that they want to use to lift their families out of poverty. Instead of a handout in the form of aid, many thousands of poor clients have received a hand up through training and small business loans.

endPoverty.org programs do not discriminate on the basis of religious affiliation or impose any religious requirements on prospective or current clients. Also, each endPoverty project is designed to produce an indigenous, independent ministry, one that is expected to stand on its own financially within a few years.

InVenture

InVenture unleashes the potential of developing entrepreneurs to lift themselves and their communities out of poverty by connecting individuals directly with these entrepreneurs, thus enabling the opportunity to create long-term substantial impact.

InVenture was started to give everyday people the opportunity to partner with businesses all over the world -- businesses that can become engines for economic growth and change the fate of their communities.

InVenture wants to change the present system of collapsing micro-business. It wants to solve the problem of the undeserved "missing middle" in developing economies by giving developing entrepreneurs the chance to expand, to employ more of their neighbors, and to lift their communities out of poverty.
InVenture motto: Together, we'll grow good businesses and good communities — and create markets where other individuals, their families, and their businesses can flourish/succeed.

Devashish Chakravarty

NEWS OF THE MONTH

Devashish Chakravarty, India's only two times CAT 100 percentile scorer( CAT 2004 & CAT 2006), is a retired Army Major with 13 years experience with the Indian Army, including 4 major Operations. He also received a Gold Medal for being the Best All-rounder of the 2007 batch at IIM Ahmedabad.

At the age of 33 he topped one of the toughest tests in the country and two years later at 35 he declined a salary offer of Rs 1 crore, the highest so far to an IIM student, to plunge into an unknown arena of entrepreneurship. Devashish Chakravarty recalls how his passion to do something on his own before he gets too old took him to take such an eye-popping step.

Chakravarty along with his batch mate Vineeta started their garment business — women’s inner-wear production and retailing — along with two other IIM-A students, Bhushan Dabir and Vishal Prabhukhanolkar.

Rajiv Jayaraman

Rajiv Jayaraman is the founder and CEO of Knolskape. A BITS Pilani graduate is among the new breed of Indian entrepreneurs. Having worked with Oracle and INSEAD as a management trainee provided him the expertise and exposure to run his own business.

His dream of creating jobs and not looking for one came true in the year 2008 when the flexibility and easiness in norms allured Rajiv to open a technology oriented venture in Singapore. By 2009, his venture had an Indian arm seeing the boom in Indian Education Industry.

His company Knolskape offers simulated learning products which help students and managers pursue excellence by offering them four building blocks: Knowledge, skills, action learning and integration. Knolskape also plans to foray into vocational training programmes in India, for which it hopes to partner with government institutes

Three year old Knolskape has already started turning in profits. The company has revenues of 2.5 crore and expects to double it to 5 crore in the coming year. Jayaraman says Knolskape's profit will also increase from 1.25 crore to about 3 crore in the same period.
