Citizen Effect

By: Kanika Kakkar

Citizen Effect is driven by the idea that anyone can make a real and significant impact in the world. It is their mission to provide everyday citizens the tools and networks they need to work directly with communities in need around the world.

They give Citizen Philanthropists the ability to choose their project, leverage their social networks, and communicate directly with their partner community. They also provide their field partners the tools they need to actively manage their projects so they can seamlessly share information with Citizen Philanthropists and directly report on the impact projects are having on the ground.

Citizen Effect is a completely different approach to philanthropy.

Citizen Philanthropists are powerful community builders. They help their partners across the world build more self-reliant and sustainable communities. But they also build stronger communities here at home by bringing people together for a common cause and promoting civic engagement. They believe giving and community building should be a central part of everyone’s life, not something left to weekends or annual drives.

The Kutumb Foundation

By: Kimberley Fernandes

The Kutumb Foundation was initiated by a group of young people who felt that there is an increasing need to develop a sense of community among urban displaced people belonging to lower income groups through the spread of education and to provide them with greater employment opportunities as well as better conditions of employment.

They felt the need for greater transparency in the NGO sector and better management practices in its functioning, and such practices must be developed through research into their existing ways of functioning; and, the corporate sector could and ought to be involved in social works, especially in the area of welfare programs for children, as an investment in our future.

In a short period of time Kutumb has tried to provide a platform for young people from the non-privileged sections of society to engage in conversations and express themselves through creative forms as diverse as football, painting and theatre. Aiming to provide holistic development, their events are a celebration of the spirit, innocence and vitality of children.

With an in-depth understanding of the development sector, Joining Hands felt the need for an organization that would help NGOs access unaffordable but much needed skills and professional talent. Ekjaa Campus Leader

The Ekjaa Campus Leader (ECL) program transforms people to undertake leadership roles and hones managerial skills. The Leader would form a team of Task Managers who would perform pre-disbursal monitoring and select the project. The projects would be further streamlined by the Leader and showcased and marketed on online social portals and offline.

The Campus Leaders and Task managers would own the social project on Ekjaa that is doing marketing of the project through Ekjaa, ensuring the right use of funds, working on fund-raising strategies, HR and finance related activities. This gives people an opportunity to implement their knowledge at grass root level and gain practical experience.

The program is already being implemented at IIT-Mumbai by Aditi Jain who views it as “ a unique opportunity for young people to use their skills to achieve a unanimous growth” and at Vellore Institute of Technology by Abhishek Jain. These kind of programs encourage community engagement and guides youth on the way to be rightly involved in social welfare activities and indulge a sense of responsibility in them towards society.
